Rhetorical Analysis- Advert

Good slavekeeping

Introduction

This ad is about the best ways to shape a slave to perfection while at the same ensuring her retention. It’s short but clear statements appeals to a master with an innocent and inexperienced newly recruited slave on the best way to ensure that he/she attains a stress free life due to her slave’s excellence. It outlines what the master should do to attain the results (as tested) within a short while.

Body

The ad is about the excellent ways to train a slave within a given time until she gains perfection. This is evidenced in the title “good slavekeeping”, as well as statements such as “how to whip her into shape, fast”. In addition, a statement “35 days to train the perfect slave” is used to communicate the exact timeline within which the “perfection” should be attained. The advert is also communicating the best way to retain a slave as seen in use of words such as “hide that passport where she’ll never find it” to impart retention techniques to the user. The advert is intended for a master as evidenced in a remark “one master’s inspiring story”. Rhetorical Analysis- Advert Sample Paper

The ad employs different appeals the main ones being use of different colors and fonts. For example, the title “good slavekeeping” has the largest font to communicate the purpose of the advert. In addition, more than six different colors have been used while at the same time the use of text highlights to pinpoint different messages, for example, “where she will never find it”, “one master’s inspiring story”, “…to train the perfect slave”. The use of different colors and fonts serves the purpose of attracting the attention of the reader (master in this case) (Collins, 2014). Besides short, simple and properly understandable words have been used as evidenced in the phrase “good slavekeeping”- even if the statement violates grammar rules, its short and understandable (Bellman et al, 2017). Exclamations have also been used to condense the message as witnessed in “stress free” statement as well as “guilt free”, “That really work” and “all of the time” (Jieun et al, 2017).  Furthermore, the ad uses suggestive language such as “because life is too short to do anything yourself” and “50 recipes we love so easy an illiterate child can make them”. The suggestive words serve the purpose of enticing the user towards the use of the product (Mortimer, & Mathews, 1998). Finally, the ad has ability to be memorized due to its attractive outline enhancing its retention qualities into the eidetic memory (Jieun et al, 2017). Since people love attractive features- one of the quality exhibited by the ad-they can memorize it with a lot of ease (Veerkumar & Jaiswal, 2015). Rhetorical Analysis- Advert Sample Paper

The image used in the ad is that of a child doing some cleaning. The image portrays an innocent and inexperienced recruit such as a slave who needs some training. The slave is ready to undergo “innovative punishments that really works” in order to get a “shaped” end product that is “perfect”. In a smart art tool within the advert (adjacent to the title) is a text “slaves do the dumbest things” indicating how an untrained and inexperienced slaves behaves. As one moves down the ad, different tips on how to train the “dump” slave are given starting with the simple thing you can train her; “50 recipes we love soo easy an illiterate child could make them” after which tips on how to retain a slave are offered through “hide that passport where she will never find it”. Mechanisms of the training and timeline are then offered in “innovative punishments that really work” and “35 days to train the perfect slave” respectively. The outcome is a “perfect” and a “shaped” slave within a short while (fast). Rhetorical Analysis- Advert Sample Paper

Conclusion

The ad has employed different effective techniques to pass the message. Use of different fonts, colors, highlights and images have served to pass the message that could otherwise have taken a lot of words. Every item in the ad serves a purpose and is in line with the main message as outlined above. The ad employs all salient features of a good ad such as use of simple words, conviction, and suggestive language and is educative among others.
