PARENTING DISCUSSION 4 PAPER
Part I:
Your neighbor Allen, who has been a widow for two years, came to see you this morning in distress. He is extraordinarily overwhelmed with parenting his 12-year-old son Kevin. He does not want to discipline Kevin harshly.
Allen is very concerned because Kevin consistently misbehaves and barely speaks to him unless he has been spoken to. According to his father, Kevin spends hours in his room on the internet, playing videos or sitting on the front porch. Despite the fact that Kevin earned excellent grades last year, his teacher recently reported that Kevin comes to school tired and often has problems completing his work. Allen learned yesterday that Kevin also has a C- average in most of his classes. Additionally, last week he was disrespectful to his gym teacher.

Allen is an underemployed computer technician experiencing financial distress and mild depression. The family has no contact with Kevin’s maternal grandparents; however Allen’s mother (Anne) and stepfather (Dave) live in a neighborhood that is 20 minutes away.
Allen is aware that you are taking this course and shared that he could use your immediate suggestions.
Using your reading other other scholarly resources, please send your neighbor a letter [Dear Allen] which offers some concrete positive parenting strategies. Please be sure to state clearly what would and what would not be effective forms of discipline in this situation.
Part II: At the end of your letter, please include one group/organization in your area that would be able to assist both Allen and Kevin. To receive full credit, please include the website, phone and contact person’s name for the recommended group/organization.
Your letter should be no less than two-pages, double space, 12pt.
